Research

We apply biochemical principles toward the engineering of biological systems. In turn, we leverage synthetic biology tools to expand our understanding of biochemical systems.

Engineered cell machinery is harnessed for on-demand biomanufacturing of designer proteins.

The goal of our research is to leverage biotechnologies to pursue hypothesis driven science that advances our understanding of biochemistry and physiology. Specifically, our research leverages a cell-free protein synthesis technology and an expanded genetic code for the on-demand manufacturing of previously intractable proteins. While we employ state-of-the-art biotechnologies, we rely on well-established biochemical principles (e.g. protein structure-function, enzymology, etc.) to elucidate how these proteins support the physiology of healthy and diseased cells.
